If you know anything about me, you know I have a love-hate relationship with this mix. However, if you've been anywhere near social media in the last two years, you've seen the strawberry matcha latte. Pink layer. Green layer. Incredible. It looks almost too good to drink. Almost.
The good news? It tastes just as good as it looks, and making it at home is easier than you think. No barista training required. I promise.
The magic of this drink is the contrast, the sweetness of the strawberry against the earthy depth of the matcha. When you get the balance right, it is genuinely one of the best things you'll ever drink. However, choose the wrong milk, and it is literally the worst matcha recipe on planet earth. I said what I said!!! Let's get into it.
Ingredients
- 1 tsp The Matcha Yaad Strawberry Matcha
- 2 tbsp warm water
- ¾ cup oat milk (barista blend) NOT coconut
- 4–5 fresh strawberries (or 2 tbsp strawberry purée)
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or simple syrup
- Ice
Method
- Blend or muddle strawberries with maple/simple syrup until smooth. If you have a fine strainer, pass it through for a silkier result. Set aside.
- Sift and whisk your matcha with warm (not boiling) water until smooth. This is your matcha base.
- Add ice to your glass.
- Pour the strawberry purée over the ice first.
- Gently pour the oat milk over the back of a spoon to create a middle layer.
- Finally, pour the matcha base on top.
- Watch the layers form. Try not to squeal. Stir before drinking.
A few things to note:
Matcha: Our strawberry matcha has a natural sweetness and creaminess that makes it the perfect choice. However, you can also use our Gokou matcha for this recipe, It doesn't fight the strawberry; it complements it beautifully.
Strawberries: Fresh is best here for flavour and colour, but a good quality strawberry purée (no added sugar) works brilliantly if you're short on time.
The layers: Don't rush the pour. A slow, steady pour over the back of a spoon is what gives you that gorgeous gradient. This is the step people skip and then wonder why their drink looks like a swamp. Don't be that person.
Sweetener: The strawberry brings its own sweetness, so taste before you add more. Less is more here.
This drink is equal parts delicious and photogenic. Make it. Photograph it. Post it. You're welcome.
